The starting point for much of Phillipa's work is investigating the way that materials and processes can manifest meaning. By distilling the more traditional printmaking practices, such as pressing, layering, inking, soaking, laminating and wiping, she makes one-off pieces, often as part of a series.
Exploring the relationship between a repeat and a discovery, the marks themselves become notational motifs reminiscent of the urban coastal environment and objects gathered while walking there - alluding to the mapping of a particular kind of landscape.
Phillipa trained at Brighton winning the Burt, Brill & Cardens graduate prize for outstanding achievement. In the last few years her work has been shown at galleries in the UK and London.
