Jennie returned to painting in 2001 qualifying from Swindon College (Oxford Brookes) in Fine Art Practice. She now works from a studio at home in Wiltshire although, as seascapes hold such fascination for her, she regularly visits Cornwall and Dorset. The ocean with its changing light, constant movement and sounds is a huge source of inspiration.
Jennie's paintings are experimental and contemporary, and although predominantly abstract, there is invariably a motif from the visual world. She likes to work out in the open, making small watercolour paintings and drawings which form a basis of larger work painted in the studio. These are an immediate response, capturing the sensations and sense of place. She aims to create atmospheric and dramatic work, to realise the true essence of the landscape in a few seconds, to evoke the mood and atmosphere of a certain time of day.
As a painting develops in the studio she experiments with paint and other materials , rubbing, scraping and painting again and enabling the viewer to feel the emotion in the painting rather than just the picture, the movement of the paint, the play of colour and light.
