Ben Catt

Ben studied sculpture at Newcastle Polytechnic from 1989-1992. He moved to Cornwall with his wife and three children in May 2003. Since then his work has been shown in several galleries in the UK, but it is Cornwall where the influence of his work is most evident.

It is an area which he loves: a landscape that is constantly changing with each season and moving within hours as weather passes. An environment which has been embraced, developed and cultivated by the people who live there.

This closeness and love of the landscape is reflected through his painting in a deep involvement with his work as it developes. There is a fluidity in the process, with boundaries and forms changing, the canvas being drawn onto often many times, textures building up and ideas changing in their complexity. His iridescent tones, harmonious shapes and linear elements form - and break - connections, creating a sense of atmosphere, space and being.
