Andy Waite

"Sometimes out walking it is possible to feel absorbed enough to lose the sense of self and enter the landscape wholly allowing colour, for the senses to envelop the consciousness – these moments are fleeting and back in the studio there’s a similar surrender – the act of painting becomes all response, trust and letting go, so that you might step back and not always recall having made the marks and yet somehow feel a deeper connection."

Andy qualified from West Sussex College of Art & Design in 1977 and has been a full time painter since 1989.

He has opened his Arundel house and studio every year during the Arundel Festival, and is well-known as a painter fascinated by colour, pattern and form. Andy's work is shown in London at the Affordable Art Fair, and Art London, and throughout the UK at variety of galleries.

The landscapes on display during our Summer show represent one aspect of his work, successfully capturing elements that take the viewer into a different realm, recognisable as subject matter but expressing alternative ways of looking, highlighting the pattern within a view, using a vibrant palette and descriptive mark making.
